Open Source

Open Source

Open source trender

While Web 2.0 was based on Ajax, Web 3.0 will consist of relatively small applications that are put together and can run on any device, where the data can be anywhere! This will be fast and adaptable applications which will be distributed through social networks, e-mail, etc.

To predict into the future is difficult particularly in the Open Source area which is in an ever-faster development. Our reflections are as follows:

There will be an ongoing consolidation in the commercial software vendor market. This will create room for the successful Open Source vendors.

Open Source adoption in the enterprises will continue, and within the application infrastructure Open Source is already  common sense. A growing number of Open Source solutions will also be viable candidates for typical business solutions. It started with the "Business Intelligence" and "Content Management", and will continue with the CRM.

Web 2.0 and "Enterprise" 2.0 will essentially continue to be open source based and contribute to the accelerated adoption of Open Source in businesses. Open Source suppliers will consolidate and lead to new Open Source companies like RedHat.

More commercially available products will be based on Open Source software. This will reinforce the use of Open Source components, but also related new effective development.

Commercial operators will continue to increase the topicality in what they offer through the "open source" critical components and platforms.

Open Source companies will continue to look for how they can generate revenue with "Open Source" and find new creative license and subscription models.

New Open Source standards as "Open Social" or "Google Android" will be the basis for many new Open Source projects and initiatives. We expect many important evolutions in the future.
